DES MOINES, Iowa, October 27, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Kemin Industries, a global ingredient manufacturer that strives to sustainably transform the quality of life every day for 80 percent of the world with its products and services, celebrates 25e birthday of his FloraGLO® Lutein Program during SupplySide West, an exhibition for professionals in the health and nutrition industry, this week at Las Vegas.

In the early 1990s, Kemin pioneered the use of lutein to support human health and has since established itself as a leader in space. FloraGLO Lutein offers consumers a range of benefits for vision, cognition and beauty from within. The ingredient is the most studied lutein, with over 100 clinical trials.

“The Kemin team is very happy to celebrate 25 years of our FloraGLO products during SupplySide West, ”said Tyler holstein, Global Product Manager – Carotenoids, Kemin Human Nutrition and Health. “We are extremely proud to be the pioneers of commercially available lutein. Seeing how this product has evolved over the years is amazing and rewarding. We are excited to mark FloraGLO’s birthday and to share this celebration with SupplySide West attendees at this week’s exhibit. “

To develop FloraGLO Lutein, Kemin investigated the potential of lutein as a dietary supplement ingredient, recognizing the gap between the typical intake of lutein in the human diet and a need for lutein in the eye health market. . During this time, Kemin was able to take advantage of knowledge and production technologies from Kemin Animal Nutrition and Health, another Kemin company that supplied purified lutein to the animal health market.

Research has confirmed the efficacy of lutein and the safety of the ingredient was validated when FloraGLO was granted GRAS (generally recognized as safe by the United States Food and Drug Administration) status for several food categories and drinks. This led to the launch of FloraGLO, the first commercial lutein on the market.

FloraGLO Lutein has been tested in over 100 clinical trials, including AREDS2 (Age-related Eye Disease Study 2), the largest lutein supplementation study ever. The study and its findings highlighted many of the top reasons consumers need lutein in their diets. Plus, lutein has been shown to have inner beauty benefits and brain health.

FloraGLO Lutein has also been validated in clinical studies at all ages to improve cognitive function. With drastic lifestyle changes during the COVID-19 pandemic, the cognitive health ingredients market experienced strong growth in 2020. According to Euromonitor, between 2015 and 2020, memory and cognitive health supplements experienced a Global compound annual growth rate of 7%, with the United States continuing to account for 42% of the overall market.1

“With over 100 clinical research trials, Kemin is dedicated to finding new areas where lutein can help us in our daily lives,” said Holstein. “For example, FloraGLO Lutein has focused on cognitive function through research linking eye and brain health. FloraGLO Lutein has been shown to improve visual performance, especially color contrast, which is an important aspect in eSports where a small advantage can be critical for correct target identification, resulting in large gains. “2

Kemin’s quality bioactives are clinically shown to support vision; cognition; immune and intestinal health; the beauty of the interior; and sleep and weight management.
