Lady’s finger bananas, also known as miniature bananas, are sweeter and smaller than the Cavendish bananas found in any local market.

According to nutritionists, eating ripe miniature bananas provides a large portion of the daily requirement of almost all nutrients.

The most important of these include potassium. There are also vitamins C and B-6 at margins of 9 and 0.5 milligrams per piece respectively. The dietary fiber content is 3 grams per 100 grams of products.

David Rukerabigwi, a dietitian and nutritionist working with Slim n ‘Fit, a weight loss and wellness center in Kigali, says these bananas are incredibly healthy, convenient, delicious, and one of the cheapest fresh fruits to be found. can access the markets.

For this reason, he says, it makes it a great choice for anyone interested in healthy eating.

In general, fruits and vegetables are great sources of dietary antioxidants, and bananas are no exception.

They contain several types of powerful antioxidants, including flavonoids and amines. These antioxidants are linked to many health benefits, such as a reduced risk of heart disease and degenerative diseases.

Rukerabigwi mentions that baby bananas contain many essential nutrients and, more importantly, they can be beneficial for weight loss, digestion, and heart health.

In addition, these types of bananas contain a good amount of fiber and several antioxidants which are all beneficial for overall health.

Rukerabigwi explains that mini bananas are high in soluble fiber, and during digestion, soluble fiber dissolves in the liquid to form a gel. This is also what gives bananas their spongy texture.

“Together, these two types of fiber have been shown to moderate blood sugar levels after meals. On top of that, can help regulate appetite by slowing stomach emptying, ”he says.

The nutritionist further notes that this means that despite their higher carbohydrate content, baby bananas will not cause major spikes in blood sugar in healthy individuals.

Emmy Ntamanga, a nutritionist consultant in Kigali, says that for people with diabetes, it is advisable to consume mini bananas in moderation.

Bananas, he says, contain dietary fiber that has been linked to many health benefits, including better digestion.

He notes that mini bananas can also help with weight loss because they are relatively low in calories.

For example, he mentions that an average banana has just over 100 calories, but is nutritious and filling.

“Eating more fiber from vegetables and fruits has been repeatedly linked to decreased body weight and weight loss,” says Ntamanga.

Rukerabigwi says baby bananas are also high in potassium, a vital mineral for heart health, especially blood pressure management.

He adds that bananas are also a great source of potassium. According to studies, a diet rich in potassium can help lower blood pressure. What’s more, people who consume a lot of potassium have up to 27% lower risk of heart disease.
